Ph.D. Candidate Alison Parks Receives Prestigious AAUW Fellowship

Ph.D. candidate Alison Parks was awarded the American Association of University Women (AAUW) American fellowship for the 2019-20 academic year. Parks’s project explores the queer community’s relationship to suicide through the lens of political theory. She is primarily interested in how gender and sexual minorities have been pathologized throughout U.S. history. Her interdisciplinary project begins by tracing a genealogy of queer suicidality. She then turns to creative expressions of living with suicidality, from musicals to memoirs, to highlight the importance of reshaping the discourses around queer suicide.
